Architectural Design | Architecture | Master PlanningEtegra designed and implemented seven family entertainment centers in a two year time period. The centers were designed in an existing building previously housing department stores and “big boy” retail. The only way to achieve this was to develop a basic concept and a set of components that could be assembled in different ways depending on the existing conditions.
Edison Brothers Stores set up a separate division to tap this market. The concept was a controlled environment that would make available a variety of physical and electronic games for both children and adults.
The Exhilarama’s ranged in size from 20,000 to 40,000 square feet. Four of the seven included indoor rides. The large number of people using the facilities and the unusual lighting and equipment created conditions that required an excellent working knowledge of the building codes in various states, including California.
