Summary
The Project Mechanical Engineer plans and coordinates project activities to ensure a high-quality product and service while achieving the goals and objectives of the project within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate personnel. This position reports to the Mechanical Discipline Leader.
Responsibilities
- Prepare complete and accurate schematic design, design development and working drawings including detailed drawings with little direction from the Project Manager.
- Generate drawings from rough sketches providing design or detailing direction.
- Coordinate documents with the various consultants potentially including architectural, electrical, structural, civil, kitchen consultant, etc.
- Use technical knowledge to correctly layout and dimension drawings for the various materials/products to be used, showing the appropriate relation of one part to another and the relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
- Uses knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings or to direct staff under you to do so.
- Review documents and execute changes required or provide red lines or direction for the staff.
- Measure and document existing field conditions.
- Perform quantity take offs from drawings for cost estimating.
- Execute product research as required to support of design solutions.
- Generate and/or edit technical specifications.
- Review construction phase submittals for compliance with design intent, drawings, and specifications.
- Print and assemble drawings, specifications, estimates, etc. for submissions to the client.
- Prepare code analysis using knowledge of building codes and other standards and codes required by individual projects.
- Execute all work in compliance with CAD/BIM standards
- Understand all standards and protocols for filing of electronic information
- Communicate effectively in written and oral format with team members, consultants, and clients.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelors or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of two years related experience/training.
- Work towards Professional registration.
Skills / Requirements
- Must be able to research, plan, design and administer building projects for clients, applying knowledge of design, construction procedures, building codes and materials.
- Ability to take direction from multiple Senior Project Mechanical Engineers or Project Managers or other sources and facilitate workflow with good time management.
- Develop building designs in conjunction with our consultants including the evaluation of alternative building systems and equipment together with other considerations based on program, budget, and aesthetics.
- Presents and explains design of the project to client and other team representatives.
- Coordinate all components that will comprise the building project including architectural, structural, electrical and fire protection disciplines and integrates these elements into a unified design.
- Must possess proficient knowledge of electronic software systems (such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Adobe, Word, Excel) as required for assigned projects. With the rapid nature of evolving production methods, the position may be required to learn new software to perform the basic job duties.
- Take an active role during construction administration to represent, advise and consult with the client.
- Maintain an organized project file documenting the entire design and construction process.
Physical Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While on-site, the employee may lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
Travel
This position requires travel, including but not limited to, travel to local and nonlocal project sites, training, etc.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Dependent on workload, hours may be somewhat flexible, and some late evenings and weekends may be required.
